The institution is composed of two contrasting spaces: an old manor house built in 1903 by Moutier-based architect Charles Kleiber, and a modern wing added in 1996 by the architecture firm Bakker & Blanc. The building houses a rich collection of works by artists from the Jura region and beyond. The museum currently holds over 8,000 works from the 1950s to the present — a unique cultural heritage that is regularly highlighted.
Through its permanent collection, contemporary art exhibitions, and retrospectives of earlier artists, the MJA affirms both its geographic roots and its interjurassian identity. It stands as a testament to the remarkable creativity that has flourished in the region — past and present.
